In a world rapidly shifting to digital platforms, cloud computing has become the backbone of modern business. But for many unemployed South Africans, the opportunity to be part of this growing industry feels out of reach—until now.
At the Opened Book Institute, we believe that talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not. That’s why we exist: to bridge that gap by equipping unemployed individuals with in-demand IT skills, especially in Cloud Computing, and walking with them every step of the way to certification, employment, and beyond.
Our Training Model: More Than Just Skills
We don’t just train—we empower.
Our cloud computing curriculum covers platforms like Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure, giving students practical, job-ready skills. But it doesn’t stop there:
- Career Coaching: CV writing, interview prep, and workplace etiquette.
- Certification Support: We raise funds to pay for exam costs many can’t afford.
- Real-World Labs: Hands-on practice to build confidence and competence.
- Mentorship & Guidance: Each student is supported like family.
We believe in removing financial barriers, which is why our program is free for unemployed individuals. But it’s not easy—we rely on donors, volunteers, and partners to keep going.
Looking Ahead: Big Dreams for Bigger Impact
Our dream is to become a Pearson VUE-accredited exam center and to establish a permanent building that houses training labs, a conference center, and community spaces. This will allow us to expand access to exams, host industry events, and create a central hub for digital upskilling in the region.
We are currently working under the MICT SETA (Media, Information, and Communication Technologies Sector Education and Training Authority) and aligning our training to national and international standards.
